Ready For Guests

Remember when I shared that Zach and I have been living in this house for over a year and have just BARELY started doing some home projects? Well, I am a little bit embarrassed to admit that there are only about 3 things in the entire house that I actually picked out and put up in our house. The rest of the stuff you could find in our home is all thanks to my mother in law. When Zach first moved in, she didn't want him living in a blank home so she worked her magic to quickly make the house feel more like a home. She did such a great job that I have been utterly uninspired to really start decorating this house since it already had stuff going on.

If you read my post about Amazon Prime Day I am sure you could figure out that the giant pile of boxes in the first photo did not come from the few things I shared that I purchased... Maybe you thought the boxes were just a prop or that it was an old photo that tI had where I ordered enough stuff from Amazon to build a small city. How I really collected all of those Amazon boxes was by ordering all kinds of stuff to start decorating! I have no idea what got into me, but one day I was walking through the house just looking around and decided that I was tired of living in a half-decorated home. Since I have never actually decorated anything larger than half a dorm room before I decided to start with the guest bedroom since it was already mostly done. It seemed like a pretty safe starting point since my mother-in-law had done 75% of the work for me (If you are reading this, THANK YOU!)

When I started working on this room it already had a bed, nightstand, dresser, comforter, blanket, and throw pillows in it. The room had been started with a grey, coral, and yellow theme which really helped me get going. Unfortunately, the room has no overhead lighting so I ordered a floor lamp from Target during their sale that competes with Prime Day and that is what got the ball rolling. Between ordering and picking up the lamp at noon and Zach getting home at 4:00 pm I managed to assemble the lamp, move furniture around, and make a pile of all the random junk we had been shoving in this room over the last year. By the end of the day, I had moved several pieces of furniture in and out of the room from other places in the house and ordered stuff from Amazon that I thought might look nice to decorate it.

By the end of the week, I had convinced Zach to make trips to 4 different Home Goods stores to look for another lamp, wall art, and a side table. I also probably spent 6 hours on Pinterest learning how to make a guest room comfortable and functional for guests and accessorizing the dresser and nightstand with anything I could find around the house. I also probably said the phrase "I am just so excited about THAT room!" about 50 times. I would have said it more often but Zach started rolling his eyes at me.

Now that I have successfully decorated one room in my house I am on a roll. Every room I look at I start thinking about how great it would look if I would take the time to decorate it. Am I the only one out there that does that? Since I am still SO new at the whole home decorating thing let me know your favorite tips and tricks below! I have 7 rooms left in this house to decorate and can use all the help I can get :)
